Why Business phones are no longer a niche thing ?

Mobile phones are no longer a luxury as we all thought it to be once. Well, thats not the important thing. But what is definitely important to note is that even business phones - which were earlier the reserved for the upper class, have lost their niche status as well.

Think of Nokia N-series, Nokia E-series, Motorola, HTC, iMate, O2, Palm Treo. You need not be a Richie Rich to make one amongst these priced possessions yours. Competition pricing amongst the dealers have brought them within the reach of everyone. What was earlier priced at Rs.30000 or more, is now available from Rs.12000 onwards. As a result of this, even ordinary people and businessman are lapping it up.

Changing work trends and increasing incomes have increased the demand for such hi-fi phones and thats where the economies of scale pops up - the higher the volumes sold, lesser the cost becomes. But there's more than price that is bothering the customers.

The idea in an all in one phone seems irresistable - a touch screen, email, an operating system, wi-fi, camera, an in-built mp3 player etc. Thats why it is called a Smart Phone. Along with these features, the look and feel of the phone is also important for the customer.

It is for all these reasons that a high end phone in no longer a dream possession for a lay man.

How does a chameleon change it's colour ?

Chameleon is a variety of lizard which often changes its colour. This is possible because of the colour-containing cells beneath the skin. But how do these cells help it to change colour ?

The upper layer of a chameleon's skin is transparent but the layer just underneath it has cells containing red, yellow and black pigments. These pigments are granular in structure and these granulescan easily move from one point to another in it's body. The contraction and expansion of these cells containing the granules are responsible for the change in colour of a chameleon. The cells contractand expand due to several factors as described below...

First, Emotions play a role in changing it's colour. When a chameleon gets enraged or frightened,it's colour turns black. Also in a state of excitement yellow spots appear on its skin making it yellow.

Secondly, light brings a change in colour, for example when exposed to sunlight, its cells turn black dueto heat of the sun.

Thirdly, heat is also a contributory factor. when it is an a hot and dark atmosphere, its colour becomes green and at lesser temperatures in darkness, the skin becomes light yellow.

The ability to change colours by a chameleon has many adavantages like protection from enemies and in catching its prey for food.

The A61E ThinkCentre launched in India this week, has achieved the highest 'gold' status of the industry's Green Electronics Council - rating based on the energy effeciency as well as 90% recyclable parts and packaging.

The version begins at Rs.15,800(excluding monitor) and are configured with a choice of AMD processors .

The dual core Athlon 64X2 or the mono core Sempron. The footprint is 8cm width by 27cm length by 17cm breadth and the machine weighs just over 3kg. It has a hard disk capacity of 80gb. Different models run Windows 2000 or Vista Business. It strengthens the partnership with chip maker AMD,whose dual core processor used here takes just 45 watts - less than an average incandescent lightbulb.

Ramayana by Bill Gates ???

When Bill Gates was in India, he had a chance 2 listen Ramayana. After returning 2 US he wrote it in his personal diary which has been recently found (Courtesy PTI). These are excerpt from his diary.

Ramayana by Bill Gates...

LAN, LAN ago, in the SYSTEM of I/O-dhya, there ruled a PROCESSOR named DOS-rat. Once he EXECUTED a great sacrifice PROGRAM after which his queens gave an OUTPUT of four SUNs - RAM, LSIman, BUG-rat and SED-rughana.
RAM the eldest was a MICROCHIP with excellent MEMORY. His brothers, however, were only PERIPHERALICs. Once when RAM was only 16MB, he married princess C ta.
12years passed and DOS-rat decided to INSTALL RAM as his successor. However, Queen CIE/CAE(Kayegayee) , who was once offered a boon by DOS-rat for a lifesaving HELP COMMAND, took this opportunity at the instigation of her BIOSed maid and insisted that her son Bug-rat be INSTALLED and that RAM be CUT-N-PASTED to the forest for 14 years. At this cruel and unexpected demand, a SURGE passed through DOS-rat and he CRASHED like unstable version of AI MSN does in intel.
RAM agreed to LOG INTO forest and C ta insisted to LOGIN with him. LSI-man also resolved on LOGGING IN with his brother. The forest was the dwelling of SPARCnakha, the TRAN-SISTOR of RAW-van, PROCESSOR of LAN-ka. Attracted by RAM, she proposed that he should marry her. RAM, politely declined, perceiving C ta to be his SOURCE CODE. She hastened to kill her but LSI-man cut her inportant PERIPHERALS. Weeping, SPARC-nakha fled to LAN-ka, where RAW-van, moved by TRAN-SIS TOR s plight, approached his uncle MAR-icha. MAR-icha REPROGRAMED himself to form a golden stag and drew RAM deep into the forest. Finally, RAM shot the deer, which, with his last breath, cried out for LSI-man in voice of RAM s SOUND CARD. Fooled by this VIRTUAL RAM SOUND, C ta urged LSI-man to his brother s aid. Catching the opportunity, RAW-van DELINKED C ta from her LIBRARY and changed her ROOT DIRECTORY to LAN-ka.

INTERVAL

RAM and LSI-man started SEARCHING for the missing C ta all over the forest. They made friendship withthe forest SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR Akshat sorry... SU-greev and his powerful co-processor Ha-NEUMAN, who agreed to help RAM. SU-greev ordered his PROGRAMMERS to use powerful SEARCH techniques learntin CS130 to FIND the missing C ta. His PROGRAMMERS SEARCHED allaround the INTER-NETworked forests. Many tried to EXCITE the birds and animals not to forget the WEBCRAWLERS (Insects) and tried to INFOSEEK something about C ta. Some of them even shouted YAA-HOO but they all ended up with NO FOUND MESSAGES Google, Lycos nothing was left untouched. The only thing they forgot was to mail iitcse01 & get PTI s help. Ha-NEUMAN then devised a RISCy TECHNOLOGY and used it to cross the seas at an astonishing CLOCK SPEED. Soon Ha-NEUMAN DOWNLOADED himself into LAN-ka. Ha-NEUMAN found C ta under a brown - green (as Brahma will call it) TREE STRUCTURE Ha-NEUMAN used the LOGIN ID (ring) to identify himself to C ta. After DECRYPTING THE KEY, C ta asked him to send STATUS_OK MESSAGE to RAM.
Meanwhile all raakshasa BUGS around C ta captured Ha-NEUMAN to DELETE him using everything including Ctrl-Alt-Del. But Ha-NEUMAN spread chaos by spreading VIRUS Fire . Ha-NEUMAN pressed ESCAPE from LAN-kaand & conveyed all the STATUS MESSAGES to RAM and SU-greev. RAW-wan decided to take RAM head-on. One of the RAW-wan s SUN almost DELETED LSI-man with a Brahma -astra. But Ha-NEUMAN resorted to some ACTIVE-Xgradients and REFORMATTED LSI-man. RAM used the SOURCE CODE secrets of RAW-wan and wiped out RAW-wan s presence on earth. Later, RAM got INSTALLED in I/O-dhya and spreaded his USER FRIENDLY PROGRAMS to all USERS and everyone lived happily ever after, playing & enjoying AOE.
Please take this as a fun....

The Real Wolverine : Not X-Men

Everyones familiar with Wolverine from the X-men and his trademark mega sharp adamantium claws but have you ever wondered what a real wolverine looks and behaves like ? Well Wolverines are the largest land dwelling member of the weasel family (Giant Otter). The wolverine's fur is dense and does not retain mch of water which makes it very much resistant to the cold conditions. Thisproperty of it's fur makes it a hunter's attraction for making leather products out of the wolverine's fur. They look more like a small bear than an actual weasel with a long tail.
In terms of size they can grow as long as four feet and weigh as much as 40 pounds. All wolverines have two light coloured stripes along their back and carnivorous in nature, theyare known to eat plant materials too. The wolverines are extremely muscular and powerful for their size and have been known to kill and consume animals much larger than themselves.

FireFox 3 includes search option

Firefox browser is the most used and popular browser amongst Internet users. They have recently planned to launch a beta version that is reported to have search facilities and other tools that can be used even during offline.

Mozilla is testing it and has named it ‘Gran Paradiso’. This major IE rival will include the search and Bookmark option in the URL bar. In addition to this, Firefox 3 will also have other inbuilt changes that might not be visible, but will overall work to give a stand out performance. Despite all these changes, the browser is expected to be less in terms of size. Definitely a tough competitor for IE, atleast for some years to come.

Colour changing Hill ?

Ever wonder how it would seem to be when a hill could change it’s colour ? There’s one such hill known as the Ayer’s Rock. It changes its colour everyday and every season. It is 440 km south west in Australia. It is 338m high and 10km wide in base.

Normally it is red in colour, and the colour changes occur during the sunrise and sunset. During sunrise, it looks deep red in colour and during sunset it looks orangish yellow and at times looks black.

This spectacular phenomenon is possible because the Ayer’s rock is made up of sandstone. During sunreise and sunset, it looks orangish and redish because the lower wavelengths are scattered by the dust particles. It has been converted into a National Park to attract tourists.

The names of these signs are as follows –
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

Astrology is based on these 12 signs. There are about 88 different constellations known to man, of which the Hydra constellation is the biggest.

Code the Bars !

Whenever we buy some products, we might have seen some black and white bars on the back side. Have you ever wondered what it represented ? It is called as Bar Code. It represents a computerised information about the product encoded in a different format.

The code is scanned by a beam of light, and each bars represents a particular information about the product. Then these pulses of information are fed to the computer for decoding. Now a days, laser beams are used for reading these lines.

World’s deadliest Animal ?

We might have seen many animals, but not all are friendly looking. There’s a world’s deadliest animal and it is known as the Sea Wasp. It has long tentacles which has millions of small stings that can inject venom. This venom is highly toxic and could kill anyone in few minutes when not given immediate medical attention.

The sea wasp is a colourless creature which has a bell shaped body. A sea wasp might have as many as 50 tentacles and each tentacle might have 1m stinging cells. Tentacles are for the purpose of searching for food and mainly for the defense mechanisms.

Scientists have till date not been able to find a complete cure for the wasp’s venom. Hence one needs to be really careful that they never go near these wasps.
