In earlier days, people framed some patterns of stars and called them as constellations. The number of constellations visible at different times in a year was found to be 12. Hence these 12 constellations were framed to be the signs of the Zodiac.
The names of these signs are as follows –
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
Astrology is based on these 12 signs. There are about 88 different constellations known to man, of which the Hydra constellation is the biggest.
